CIAM in Tokyo

CIAM recently took part to the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of JASRAC, the Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers. Congratulations to JASRAC!

During a week full of events, the Chair of CIAM had the opportunity to make a detailed presentation of its strategy at the CISAC Asia-Pacific Committee, pointing out the need for an independent creators alliance in the area. It was agreed that a good start would be to set up a Steering Committee with creators from the countries where copyright/authors right is more developed, including possibly China, where a new legislation is due for the first months of 2015.

The CISAC Board of Directors was informed about the Nashville congress and the resolution to circulate the copies of the Fair Trade Music Compensation Study (available for download below), and invited to contribute with insights on specific regional issues, for example in Europe.

The Chair of CIAM also took part in a Symposium on Copyright with more than 400 attendees. Sharing the stage was Shunichi Tokura, Chair of JASRAC; Yves Nilly, Chair of Writers and Directors Worldwide; and moderating the event, Eric Baptiste, Chair of CISAC’s Board of Directors. The Fair Trade Music project was also presented and explained during the Symposium.
