Iván García-Pelayo Alvarado
Composer, Lyricist and Writer
Born in 1968, Iván García-Pelayo Alvarado is a graduate of philosophy and obtained the Adaptation Course for Teachers (CAP) from Complutense University of Madrid. Afterwards, he studied history at the Autonomous University of Madrid and, from 2005 to 2007, he developed a Master’s Degree in Business Management and Administration from the University of Deusto. Between 1997 and 2001, Iván was Marketing Director in Spain for the Metro Goldwyn Mayer group, based in Las Vegas. He lived in that city studying and receiving training for a year.
In the 1990s, Iván was the singer and guitarist for the group Lejos de Alli, which recorded three CDs. He is both a composer and lyricist, creating titles such as “Africanos en Madrid” for Amistades Peligrosas and cowrote “Con dos camas vacias” with Joaquín Sabina for María Jiménez. As an artistic producer, he worked on “Tribute to Jesus de la Rosa” (leader of the legendary group Triana). He currently has a group called The Pelayos with whom he writes new compositions and CDs.
As a writer, he has created and published four long works entitled “¿Cambio o Intercambio?”, “La Superación del Ego”, “¿Cuánto te Juegas?” and “La Fabulosa Historia de Los Pelayos”. In 2012, a film based on this latest book, entitled The Pelayos where he collaborates as a co-producer and scriptwriter, was released. He has also published short stories in the books “Mujeres” and “Escrito a pluma”. He was also scriptwriter for the films “Alegrías de Cádiz” and “Todo es de Color”, based on the musical work of the Triana group and directed by Gonzalo García-Pelayo.
With other partners and composers, he developed the content program and structure of the online songwriting school, lacanción.net, in 2014. He is developing these courses for the AMA association with several hundred students receiving training. In regards to experiences with Spanish associations, he has been Vice President of the Andalusian Cultural Platform (PLACA) and the Association of Composers and Authors of Music (ACAM) as well as member of the Federal Committee of the Network of Organizations of Authors and Music Interpreters (ROAIM). He is currently First Vice President of the Association of Associated Musicians (AMA).
From international representation, Iván is an international relations delegate of the Spanish Federation of Musicians and Authors (FEMA). He has served as Vice President and is a founding member of the Alliance of Popular Composers Organizations in Europe (APCOE) and delegate of the Federal Committee and coordinator of the European Composers & Songwriters Alliance (ECSA), board member of the Writers & Directors Worldwide (W&DW) Executive Committee and as consultant and observer of the Latin American Alliance of Composers and Authors of Music (ALCAM). Currently Iván is a board member and Vice President of Fair Trade Music International (FTMI) and also as Vice President of the International Council of Music Creators (CIAM) Executive Committee.
